According to the UN, "rising temperatures are fuelling environmental degradation, natural disasters, weather extremes, food and water insecurity, economic disruption".

Humanity faces the effects of climate change, and data do not look promising in the years to come.

During last summer, the planet suffered the consequences of hurricanes, massive rainfalls or prolonged heatwaves, while the Black Sea countries witnessed unprecedented wildfires, floods, and the overgrowth of marine mucilage. Global warming affects the number and duration of severe weather events resulting in more frequent and intense disasters like droughts, floods and wildfires.

Their negative effect however, goes beyond the natural and socioeconomic environment of local communities. As the covid-19 pandemic has demonstrated emphatically, global risks demand for global solutions -what happens in one country can affect all countries.

Consequently, the development of effective climate resilient measures requires a holistic approach, coordination and cooperation among all involved stakeholders, but more importantly the adoption of science-based countermeasures.

The webinar aims to bring together stakeholders from the Black Sea countries, regional and international organisations to share the latest data on climate change and natural hazards in the Black Sea countries, as well as, to discuss mitigation measures and a socio-economic response for the region.
