As announced during the SEArica event of December 2021 “Towards a Maritime Sector Fit for 55”, the SEArica Intergroup has the pleasure of organising a follow-up session on the Fit for 55 package with the support of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions.

A first session will focus on maritime transport, with an update on the FuelEU maritime and the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation. Stakeholders from maritime regions, shipping, and ports organisations as well as civil society will express their views.

The second session will include an update on the state of negotiation of the Social Climate Fund, which is closely linked to the debate around the ETS2 and its expected socio-economic consequences on coastal and peripheral territories. Stakeholders from maritime regions and civil society will debate with the shadow rapporteurs of the dossier.

The third session will focus on ReFuelEU aviation and on its expected impact and implications for territories which depend on aviation for access and connectivity. The issue will be discussed with insular regions, representatives from the sector and from civil society.

Opening remarks by SEArica Chair Tonino Picula. With the participation of SEArica Vice-Chair for Blue Economy, Maritime Industries and Ports Petros Kokkalis, Vice-Chair for Outermost Regions Claudia Monteiro de Aguiar, Vice-Chair for Maritime Transport Jan-Christoph Oetjen and SEArica members Rasmus Andresen and Caroline Nagtegaal
