Join BRIDGE-BS Webinar Series "Black Sea Towards 2050"

The Horizon 2020-funded BRIDGE-BS project is pleased to announce a webinar series showcasing major findings and key results from our four-year journey in advancing sustainable Blue Economy in the Black Sea towards 2050.

Over the past four years, BRIDGE-BS has made significant strides in understanding the impact of multi-stressors on the Black Sea, advancing data integration, modeling, and risk-based assessments to support sustainable ecosystem management. Through innovations in biodiversity monitoring, climate scenario modeling, and resilience analysis, the project has laid the foundation for a science-driven approach to ensuring the long-term sustainability of Black Sea ecosystem services.

As we look toward the future, the Black Sea Towards 2050 webinar series will bring together Black Sea and International scientists, policymakers, industry stakeholders, and the broader public to discuss how BRIDGE-BS research contributes to a better understanding of the Black Sea’s challenges and opportunities.

WEBINAR 1: THE FUTURE OF BLUE ECONOMY – 16 April 2025 10:00 CET
It will explore future scenarios for the region’s blue economy, focusing on innovation, governance, and transformative pathways co-designed with stakeholders through Living Labs. It assesses the environmental impacts of these scenarios using risk-based tools, guiding sustainable development across the Black Sea basin and its regions.
Objective: This webinar will present the multiscale scenarios and tools developed by BRIDGE-BS to explore the potential of the Blue Economy in the Black Sea.
Focus Areas: Purpose of the Scenarios, Key Findings, Who Can Use Them, How, and Next Steps
Format: Online | 2 hours

WEBINAR 2: Technologies for Smart Monitoring of Multi-stressors: Readiness and upscaling – Early July
2nd Webinar will focus on smart monitoring technologies developed within BRIDGE-BS and how to upscale them. Throughout the project, BRIDGE-BS has enhanced smart monitoring and new cost-effective tools for understanding ecosystem functioning and rapid biodiversity assessments of high innovation potential, such as advanced molecular and acoustical techniques for rapid biodiversity and biomass monitoring, integrated electrochemical, microfluidic sensors and AI-based prototype technologies.

WEBINAR 3: BRIDGE BLACK SEA DEMONSTRATOR – September
3rd Webinar will launch the Black Sea Digital Twin Ocean demonstrator developed within BRIDGE-BS. Black Sea DTO is a decision support tool that utilizes data pools, integrated simulations, resilience assessments and adaptive management tools to define the ecosystem's state and associated risks. Decision support tools include employing machine learning and cumulative assessments. These tools test various socio-economic and blue economy scenarios, with sector analyses and stakeholder input from living labs across the basin.

Ukraine takes over the coordination of the Common Marit...

On 1 January 2025, Ukraine took over the coordination of the Common Maritime Agenda (CMA) for the Black Sea, following Moldova’s CMA coordinating role in 2024. Ukraine aims to build on Moldova’s success by addressing the CMA goals and priorities in the Black Sea region.

Strategic Priorities for 2025

Ukraine’s leadership will focus on enhancing awareness of the Black Sea CMA and broadening its engagement with stakeholders in the Black Sea region and blue economy. A key priority focuses on the exchange of best practices, particularly on the need  for joint environmental monitoring, including the impact of the current war (e.g. sea mines and pollution) on the sea basin , which is a shared concern for Black Sea countries. Other key objectives include discussing the latest advancements in green ports, innovative transportation systems, and modern maritime infrastructure.
